Although many of you have recently experienced some bad weather, it’s fair to say it is still summer time. It is still warm, the sun is still shinning bright and we still want to go on a six-months vacation (twice a year) 😛
So, what better way to continue our summer celebration then by bringing more colours into our homes and lives, for that matter?
Today I am going to show you the quickest, cheapest and most adorable DIY possible! A colourful salt jar that will brighten up your room, home and most importantly will keep the summer mood alive, even when Autumn will knock on our doors 😉
- coloured chalk
- a jar
- a knife, cutter or X-acto knife
- some bowls
What you need to do:
As I said in the intro, this is probably the easiest and cheapest yet most adorable DIY ever, because it can be made by using stuff that you already have in your home, or if not, that will cost you very little money.
First thing you should do is to approximate how much salt goes into your jar. Or, better yet fill it with salt and then divide that amount into five equal piles of salt.
Tip: You can use more than 5 colours, or less, it’s your choice. I had 5 coloured chalks in my package, so that’s why I went for this number.
Now, take your first pile of salt, put in in a bowl and pick up the first piece of chalk (I went for blue). Take your cutter (in my case) and start scrapping the surface of the chalk with the blade (picture 1).
From time to time, be sure to mix the chalk powder with the salt so it gets coloured (picture 2). Repeat these steps with all the remaining pieces of chalk.
When your bowls are ready (see picture 3), you just need to pour the coloured salt into the jar (picture 4-9). The order is totally up to you 😉
In the end you just need to add its lid and there you go! A pretty and coloureful decorative jar to brighten up your room! Wasn’t that easy?
Tip: I decided to add a little extra something to my jar so I decorated the lid with a seashell and wrapped a cord around the jar’s neck. Ta naaaaa! Isn’t it pretty?
The seashell is a defo reminder of the summer, while the coloured salt will put you into “beach mood” for it kind of calls out for sand and salty sea water, don’t you think?
Now everytime you look at this jar you can start planning your next vacation. It can also act as motivation-kit for when you have a shitty day at work and dream about a holiday 😉
Nonetheless, I reckon this is a cool, cute and extremely pretty decorative object that can cost you a little fortune if you decide to buy it. Luckily, now you can design your own!
Plus, it can turn into a very special present for someone dear because who doesn’t like colours? 😉
